LYRICS Fingers stained like old tattoos Of every word I scored for you Bright of eye and dark of wing Blacker than a mourning ring Candle-blind and broken-minded Breathing just to be reminded (Breathing just to be reminded) Faking for a living thing Shadows of my carrion king Pick the screaming bones of me Clean this criminal debris Candle-blind and broken-minded Breathing just to be reminded (Breathing just to be reminded) Go on and stare, I won’t even look behind It’s not fair to keep you guessing The way that you’re obsessing It’s so unkind The way that you decide me; the way your tiny mind defines me I am finer than the world you’re dying in Candle-blind and broken-minded Breathing just to be reminded Breathing just to be reminded Breathing just to be reminded Copyright © Mel Lampro

LYRICS How on earth did you get to me? Me, the devotee of Newton’s Theory I believe that what goes up must ultimately return And so for safety reasons Oh I prefer to keep my feelings Firmly pinned to terra firma now Oh I’m afraid of heights ‘Cos I’m afraid of falling Oooh-whoa! I’m afraid of falling Well I took a walk outside To clear my head Forgot myself completely And danced for the stars instead - yeah The air was cool There was a mist rolling in from the south Fair took me by surprise Like a peppermint in my mouth Oh you do this to me and I can’t believe it My heart is fifty feet above the ground Now I’m gonna have to retrieve it Oh Mr. Jones, ooh what have you done? Oooh-whoa! What have you done? So I’m up here in the stratosphere Floating upside down And now that I’m gliding I can move without a sound Oh it’s a beautiful view ‘Cos all I can see when I look up is you And no one moves through those fluffy clouds The way that you do Oh it’s a regular, bona fide, medical enigma I’m afraid of heights so What the Hell am I doing up here with ya? Oh Mr. Jones, don’t you leave me alone Oooh-whoa! Don’t you leave me alone. You were quite unexpected Not what the doctor directed But I should have you At least three times a day Oh I don’t need a sweetener for ya Don’t want water to help me swallow I can take you straight into the vein I don’t know if I’m still or I’m standing I can’t tell if I’m breathing or drowning Oh I feel like I’m swimming underground Oh Mr. Jones, let’s just take this on home Oooh-whoa! Let’s just take this on home Copyright © Mel Lampro

LYRICS If you ever, ever change your mind Oh then darling, you will not find My heart is so easy, easy to fall Under your spell Oh, well, well, well, well, well, well, well Once bitten, twice shy Ah now c'mon and look me in the eye And tell me you love me Come on now, tell me you love me And I will show you a lie I will show you a lie Because you...oh you are the cheatin’ kind I'm not looking for the answer I'm not wasting my time I'm just waiting, waiting for your wings To scratch the eyes out of the sky Oh nothing is right When nothing is wrong So why do we fight Just to get along? Once bitten, twice shy Ah now c'mon and look me in the eye And tell me you love me Come on now, tell me you love me And I will show you a lie I will show you a lie Because you...oh you are the cheatin’ kind You take a breath Every time I exhale Ah we're so out of synch In a beautiful Hell So come on and meet me at the crossroads And I'll drive you round the bend Cos you ain't never, no you ain’t never No you ain’t never coming back here again Once bitten, twice shy Ah now c'mon and look me in the eye And tell me you love me Come on now, tell me you love me And I will show you a lie I will show you a lie Because you...oh you are the cheatin’ kind You, you don’t mean nothin’ to me No, oh you don't even move me And brother I know you been shakin’ me down Ah but you don’t own me Oh no, you don’t, oh you don’t control me And I, oh I, I don’t want you around, no Once bitten, twice shy Ah now c'mon and look me in the eye And tell me you love me Come on now, tell me you love me And I will show you a lie I will show you a lie Because you...oh you, you, you, you, you are the cheatin’ kind Ah yeah, you are the cheatin’ kind Yeah you’re the cheatin’ kind You are the cheatin’ kind Copyright © Mel Lampro

about

King of Crows is the first EP recorded by Braver than Fiction, which was released on 24th July 2014, a day prior to the band opening up at The Leadmill, Sheffield for Tramlines Festival 2014, supporting Cut Ribbons, JOLTA and The Wedding Present.

We recorded King of Crows at Yellow Arch Studios in Sheffield, choosing to record the four tracks on the EP live, as an authentic representation of what you might chance upon if you attend one of our shows.

Once recorded, we did not tamper with the songs in the mix, other than a little necessary ‘housekeeping’ (we assumed nobody wanted to hear us discussing socks and chocolate).
